Our Mission Statement

Your Genesee County Community Action Resource Department is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life within the county by preventing and alleviating the causes of poverty, mobilizing, and directing resources to assist, educate and promote self-sufficiency.

Organization Profile

The Genesee County Community Action Resource Department (GCCARD) is an organization whose overall goal is to eliminate barriers and level the playing field for the poor, seniors, children and the hard to serve population of Flint and Genesee County.  The Genesee County Community Action Resource Department operates a wide array of quality services.  Our children benefit from the most successful Head Start Program.  Low-income residents receive assistance through the Weatherization Program, USDA Supplemental Food Program, and Neighborhood Services Center.  Our county seniors and children receive support from the Nutrition Programs.

GCCARD is a member of the Michigan Community Action Agency Association as well as many other organizations.  We collaborate our efforts with that of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, the Genesee County Health Department, Catholic Charities, Salvation Army, and the United Way to name a few.  We have been successful in establishing long working relationships with many of the agencies in our area to further the effectiveness of our programs.

Walk for WarmthWalk for Warmth Flyer

The Walk for Warmth is a statewide effort to promote public awareness concerning people
experiencing heat-related emergencies.  This program allows GCCARD to advocate and fund raise on their behalf. Participants raise pledges and then complete a 'Walk for Warmth' organized group walk.
There are 27 other Community Action Agencies such as GCCARD hosting a Walk for Warmth in the month of February.  GCCARD sponsors many activities within the agency each year to raise funds for the Walk.  All monies raised in Genesee County stay here in Genesee County to help County families and individuals in need.
